#8: TED TALKS
I chose the article " Why gender-based marketing is bad for business?". In the article, the author states that it would not be right if all the commercial exist based on gender. She tells that one of her friends feel very annoying because she wonder why she is just introduced to make up, cooking, clothing products. The author said that the easiest ways to target their consumers by genders, but it is stereotypes. For example, thirty-five percent to forty percent of consumption in alcoholic beverages around the world actually happens with women, but most people always say "Women dont drink beer"; however, in the same place, same environment, at the same time, both men and women still have ability to buy beers, so it's not right if you just target that alcoholic beverages to men, maybe you will lost almost haft of consumers who buy beers. In conclusion, she pointed that it's not necessary to marketing separately by gender.
In my opinions, it's maybe true but just a little. It's true because maybe women can be interested in men things and men can be interested in women things but not almost. We call "women things" because it basically for women, so targeting in women as much as possible is what marketers do. If one person wants to find or buy something that bad, they will search on the internet, so that's not annoying. That is all I can understand about this article, maybe I should listen more. :))

BLOG #7: HOLIDAYS
My first Halloween in the US is just like a normal day, nothing special. Maybe because I don't have any interesting in this holiday, I'm afraid of ghost, devil; also, I'm afraid of something look fake such as clowns, vampires, and monsters. Thus, I don't like make up to be someone or something else, and get surprise or something like that. Although I don't like this holiday, I still enjoy when seeing everybody was fun and excited, especially the kids, they look so cute in the small costume, act like their characters, and go around to get candies from their neighbors.
I have never been in Thanksgiving and Christmas in the US before. I think it must be fun with a lot of activities like: decorating the house, buying the Christmas tree, preparing gift for family members, having dinner; moreover, I see they have turkeys. I guess it will be fun because this is one of the biggest holidays in the US, am I right? In Vietnam, we also celebrate Christmas. Some people who are Catholicism will go to the church, and mostly people will go to down town to see the light, take photos. It's so much fun because of the crowd; at that day, every places are full of people with nice clothes.
I can't wait to have my first Christmas in the US ^^

In Vietnam, when a couple have a baby, and in their kid's first birthday, they always hold a big party and invite many people such as friends, neighbors and all members in their family to come to enjoy. All the guests will prepare some gifts for the baby base on the baby's gender. If the baby is a boy, he usally recieve some toys like superman toys or which is relevant to strength such as police man, super hero, sometime is clothes and things that useful for the baby, but it is printed picture of superman or in blue color. On the other hand, girls are recieved something more girly like dolls, make up toys or everything is relevant to pink.
Boys are always expected to learn active and strength required activities and like soccer, basketball or taekwondo. Girls are learning to cook, scuplture or painting, activites that are require finesse and skills. However, in my opinions, that is stereotype because nowaday, boys and girls can do the same things by practicing. It's up to their passion, also.

In 5 topics that I have read, maybe I'm interested in "The Arts in a Cultural Context" on page 166 - 169. First of all, maybe because it is easier to read and understand what is the writter talking about and the topic is similar to our life, we can easily see art in normal life. Sencond, the reading doesn't have many new vocabulary for me to look up on dictionary haha. Lastly, I found it's true that there are different types of art in different cultures. For example, many countries in Western are interested in painting while Asian countries usally get inspired by scuplture.
I'm very interested in the symbolic communication because it is worldwide value, every countries have it. an example of this is dancing or singing, maybe we can not understand clearly the stories or know the right way to enjoy, we still can enjoy the movement and melody. In addition, to me, art is one of the ways that I can use to start a conversation with someone in another country. By asking about their music or their traditional art.

BLOG #3: THE WAY I GROW UP
When I was high school, I was a obedient girl in my parents's eyes, I always listened to them and do whatever they want; moreover, I was not gonna do that things if they didn't like it. I tried to study hard and harder to get good marks in every subjects because I didn't want to make my parents feel disappointed because of me.
In one day, my classmates planed to have a 1-night trip together, and I was very excited, but I was sure that my parents didn't allow me to go because it was pretty far from my city. However, I wanted to go so bad, and I try to persuaded them one time, the result was "NO!". I was really mad and I decided to go anyway. I put my clothes in the bag and told them I went to my best friend's house to do homeworks. Unfortunately, my parents found out that I was going on the trip in somehow, and they called me to let me know. I think maybe they had a call to my friends's mom for asking or something. My parents requested for a conversation after I got home; thus, I was terrified. When I got home, we started to talk about what we feel. I tried to express my feeling of being control and say that i'm not a kid anymore, they have to believe me. After discussing for 1 hour, we knew each other, and my parents decided to let me do what I want, they decided to believe me. I am really thankful for that.
In Vietnam, our parents are still being affected by the strictly thought that children must listen to everything parents say although they don't want to do it. Parents always control children's life in every aspects. Kids must have their own thinking and decision. I tried to explain that I was not going to do something stupid and luckily they believed me. From that time, I could be myself, I can make decision by myself , and I tried my best to follow it.
Right now, my parents are very proud of me because of what I did for them and I am thankful for their trust to me.

BLOG #2
I'm interested in this proverb because it's easy to understand in a particular way haha. Stars are beautiful, and people can easily see them in the sky. However, there are some conditions if you want to enjoy - wait for the night. In the morning, stars are still there but you can't see it, just like in real life, there are something happen but you can't know it clearly if you don't try to find out the reason, so do not judge easily things that you do not understand.
The lesson that we get behind this sentence is "Whatever you do, good or bad, people will always have something negative to say about you and your life. We were born to be real, not to be perfect. You don't need to hear what someone judge you or what they want you to be". That's it, and I see that it's very suitable for me.
In Vietnam, I was an outgoing person, it was easy for me to talk with someone that I never talk to, but other people didn't like it, they thought I pretended to be friendly or something bad that I didn't understand why they had that though. Then I realized, however, I did't need to know what people think about me, I was proud of myself, it was great to be me and now I had friends who are very nice and kind.
In conclusions, I just want to say, don't judge and evaluate someone or something if you don't know all the story. Oh I think in Vietnam, there are some sentences talk about this case but now I haven't remembered it yet, so let me remind it late :))
p/s: there are some good proverb but I don't get it clearly, I'm looking forward to someone can explain it clearly haha.

Blog #1: WHO AM I ?
Hi everyone,
I'm Chloe, and my Vietnamese name is Ngoc Pham. I lived in Vietnam for 22 years; I and my family decided to move to the US to start a new life 4 months ago. It was a hard decision but we made a choice. However, I really enjoy my new life right now. I think I adapt to the new environment so well, and I have a lot of thing to do to catch up with everyone. I gotta do my best that can be succeed in the USA.
I love taking photograph and editing it, but I mostly use my phone to take photos because it's easy to use and post it online. In addition, I'm gonna take a picture whenever I see a beautiful view. Posing a nice picture on the internet is one of the most favorite hobbies. In my free time, I'd like to meet my friends, have a meal, go for a walk and talk about everything in the world because I love making friends. Since I moved here, however, the big challenge for me is language. I hope I can improve my English as soon as possible so that I can have more confidence to make friends and do eveything.
Here are my recent picture, I randomly took it on the way to school.
